Sharingan is regarded as one of the most powerful Dojutsu among “Three Great Dojutsu”. It was possessed and passed down by the Uchiha clan. Sharingan offers its user the ability to copy opponent’s jutsu, read their movements and predict their attacks. Along with that the wielder of the sharingan can cast strong Genjutsu.

Mangekyou Sharingan (MS) is the upgraded version of the regular Sharingan and is awakened by very few clan members. Mangekyou Sharingan is way more powerful than a regular Sharingan. All MS wielder’s eyes have unique visual designs. MS can’t be awakened by training hard but to awaken an MS, an individual must go through tremendous emotional trauma such as the death of a family member or a close one as shown in the series.

Every MS user has unique powerful abilities such as Shishui’s “Kotoamatsukami” and Itachi’s “Tsukuyomi”. Though MS allows the user to use various powerful abilities it has various drawbacks. MS usage puts a constant strain on the user by consuming a huge amount of chakra and thereby pushing the user to its limits. It adversely affects the eyesight of the user, and the eye even bleeds during its usage. Not only that, but the user will lose his vision and go blind over time. Although the MS offers immense power to its user, still its user has to pay great costs in return.

Among the Uchiha clan, there are very few MS users including Iconic Characters like Itachi Uchiha and Obito Uchiha. Other than Uchihas, Kakashi Hatake does possess the MS.

As the name states, the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan (EMS) is truly eternal i.e. Last forever. Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan is an advanced form of the Mangekyou Sharingan. EMS is obtained by transplanting the eyes of another MS user and hence EMS eyes visual patterns are the combination of visual patterns of the current user as well as the previous user.

Unlike MS users, EMS users don’t get blinded by its usage and can use its power and abilities to their full extent without any drawbacks which is the key difference between MS and EMS. EMS users can activate perfect “SUSANO” which is an ultimate and unbreakable defense. In short EMS users can use their EMS powers without any limitations. EMS was only awakened by two characters, Madara and Sasuke Uchiha.

In Conclusion, MS & EMS differs in power levels. MS offers immense power, but the user loses his eyesight over time, while EMS has no drawbacks as such. MS is awakened by a handful of characters in the series, while EMS is awakened only by Madara and Sasuke Uchiha.

Why didn’t Obito go blind after using Mangekyou Sharingan for so long?

Since Obito had Hashirama’s cells, it not only helped in the recovery of his injuries after the accident, but it also prevented him from going blind.

Do every Mangekyou sharingan user can use “Amaterasu”?

NO, Every Mangekyou Sharingan provides unique abilities to its user. Hence not every Mangekyo sharingan user can use “Amaterasu”.

What are the ‘THREE GREAT DOJUTSU’?
